Special CARE, Inc.
2007 Recipient

Special Care, Inc. provides year-round direct care, early childhood education, after school/summer programs and occupational, speech, and physical therapy services within a completely inclusive environment for 135 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 21 years.

Two-thirds of the children enrolled in our program have special needs due to conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, and a wide-variety of multi-disabling disorders.  The other one-third are following typical development patterns.

The organization’s philosophy is based on the concept that early intervention coupled with parental education and an inclusive environment will help prevent the cumulative effects of a child’s disability.  Special Care is committed to providing an environment where every child can participate in activities that build self-esteem while promoting cognitive and physical development.

Mission:

  • To ensure that children of all abilities achieve a sense of accomplishment and heightened self worth
  • To strengthen and educate families
  • To train others in the skills of caring for children with disabilities
  • To provide an environment where every child can thrive and develop
